Elgin

Formerly a main manufacturer of both sausage and bricks, Elgin, Texas has a population of approximately 6,000 residents. Only 19 miles east, Elgin is a short drive from Austin. It’s also served by the Elgin Independent School District. Highlights of Elgin include a multitude of libraries and parks with year-round events, as well as the city designation of a Main Street city, which Elgin was named in 2001. This illustrates the commitment of the Elgin population to their community, as the aim of being a Main Street city is reinvigorating historic commercial districts. Elgin has also competed in the Little League World Series in 2006 and 2007.

The median price of homes in Elgin in 2007 was $135,000, from which it has fallen to $105,000 approximately in 2011. However prices are on the rise. Home prices range from $100,000 to over $500,000.
