Welcome to our collection of michelada recipes . We love this Mexican concoction, and you will too. A Michelada is a Mexican drink made with beer, lime juice, sauces, salt and spices. It can also contain Clamato Juice.
Brewing companies are even bottling variations of the cocktail. Miller has the Miller Chill. Budweiser has the Bud Light Lime, and if you like Clamato, the Chelada. We suggest you steer clear of these terrible abominations. They are horrible and may keep you from ever trying a real michelada. You are best off choosing your favorite blonde or amber Mexican beer and mixing your own. Its is super easy and delicious.
A Michelada is served in a chilled, salt-rimmed glass. There are many recipe variations of this drink throughout Mexico and Latin America along with the many additional variations we now have in the united states. The drink can consist of any mix of the following ingredients.
- Beer – Preforably Mexican
- Citrus – At least 2 whole small limes or lemons
- Sauces – Clamato, Jugo Maggi, Salsa Inglesa, Worcestershire Sauce, Soy Sauce, Bloody Mary Mix, Goya Botanita, Tobasco, Valentina Salsa Picante, Buffalo Hot Sauce and more.
- Seasonings – Salt, Chili Powder, Tajin (ta-heen), Celery Salt and more.
There are about as many michelada recipes as there are stars in the sky.
On the next few pages you will be introduced to my many Michelada recipes. Keep in mind that these recipes can, and should to be adjusted to your particular taste. Just as everyone has a their favorite Bloody Mary recipes, everyone should have their own Michelada recipes. So experiment, and when you create your favorite mixture please post it here to share with everyone.

Michelada MIX recipe
For convenience, instead of hauling all the ingredients out every time I want a single Michelada, I’ve been making my own Michelada mix:
- 24 oz. lime juice. (Surprisingly, bottled lime juice is good, and I don’t know how long
fresh lime juice would keep.) - 2 oz. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 oz. Soy sauce
- 1 oz. Tabasco or Chulula sauce (your choice)
- 2 tsp. Tajin (or to your taste)
- 2 tsp. salt (or to your taste)
- 2 tsp. black pepper (or to your taste)
Put a funnel in a clean quart-sized bottle. Add all the ingredients to funnel, adding the lime juice last so as to clear all the other ingredients down the funnel. Keep refrigerated.
To use, run a little lime juice (or the mix itself) around the rim of a 16-oz. glass and coat with salt or Tejin, if you wish. Add ice to about 1/3 full. Add one oz. of mix. Add 12 oz. of beer (Modelo Especial, Bohemia, or your choice). Quick stir.
Michelada Recipe – Cajun Style
My Cajun Michelada recipe! Try this hot mama at your next crawfish or crab boil. I live in Texas now, but am originally from Louisiana. This means for every recipe I come up with, I also have to create a Cajun version. I created this michelada recipe as a twist off of a Cajun Bloody Mary recipe. We will need to rim our glasses with Tony’s or Zatarain’s Cajun seasoning instead of salt for this one. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I’m just in the mood for something really spicy. If you aren’t, just use a little less Tabasco and go hang out with the women in the sewing room. Make sure you let me know what you think in the comments section below.
How To Make A Michelada With Clamato
The Clamato Michelada is the staple go to recipe. I am not a very huge fan of tomato in my beer, but some folks are, so I thought I would include this recipe for all you weirdos out there. Clamato is a drink made with tomato juice, spices, and clam broth. If you like bloody beer you will love this version of michelada. If you don’t want to make your michelada with Clamato you can also make this recipe with tomato juice or any Bloody Mary mix of your choice. Zing-Zang is my favorite. This is a the best recipe for your hangovers. Do you ever get hangovers? It’s happened to me once or twice.
