Best Austin Breakfast Tacos
A dish as popular as breakfast tacos has dozens, if not hundreds, of prospects among the city’s many communities and metro area. The best breakfast tacos are in Texas. When you leave Texas – they are just not the same. When it comes to Austin – we had to try to narrow this down to 10. It was a challenge to pick just the right ones. Many of the breakfast tacos came with home made fresh salsa or hand made tortillas – which is a big bonus. The more love that goes into a taco the better these delicious breakfast tacos are. Alot of the breakfast tacos places we picked started out in a food truck and now are a brick and mortar restaurant. To start out so humble and not changing the authentic taste of the way they make tacos – these are places that the city demand more tacos.
Breakfast tacos are Tex-Mex cuisine that began in the kitchens of Mexican immigrants living in Texas. Here in Austin, we are obsessed with these sumptuous breakfast tacos. They are tasty, warm, inexpensive, versatile breakfast meals that can be held in just one hand. Breakfast tacos are best eaten with a cup of hot black espresso.
Taco Flats
5520 Burnet Rd. Ste. 101
Austin, TX 78756
(512) 284-8352

The original Taco Flats came to life during Austin’s first booming period in the late 1970s, developing quite the reputation as an infamous local hangout. You could always find a friend inside, and entertainment was guaranteed. As an active participant in Austin’s famous music scene, Taco Flats provided a stage for the likes of Gary P. Nunn, Blaze Foley, Calvin Russell, and Townes Van Zandt, just to name a few. And if there wasn’t live music, there was a crowd cheering on a jalapeno eating contest, or maybe an (unofficial) drinking contest. The calmer days were spent simply sharing cheap beer with good company. No matter what, Taco Flats was the place to party and it was always open to everyone. But like all great parties, it had to come to an end when Taco Flats shook off its hangover and closed up shop in October 1981. – tacoflats.com
Vaquero Taquero
104 E. 31st St.
Austin, TX 78705
512.383.5582

Vaquero Taquero makes breakfast and street-style tacos in Austin, Texas. Our specialty is the Taco al Pastor, made by carving flame-seared pork off our trompo (vertical fire spit) which we wrap in a warm handmade tortilla and garnish with roasted pineapple, cilantro, onion, salsa, and avocado crema. We started Vaquero Taquero in 2016 to create a taquería with as much flavor as those from our past homes. We began in the heart of Austin at the doorstep of the Mexic-Arte Museum, serving our tacos from a modified paleta push-cart, reminiscent of the street vendors that are part of the fabric of city life in Mexico. In March 2017, we grew into our food truck in Hyde Park, where we continue to push to bring the best al pastor from our trompo, carne asada from our grill, and fresh, handmade tortillas from our tortillero. – vaquerotaquero.com

Austin, TX, 78751
(512) 451-3326

Located in Austin’s Airport Corridor, Tyson’s Tacos is a friendly neighborhood taco joint from the esteemed Taquero Tyson Blankemeyer. Tyson and Cherry Blankemeyer were happy with their restaurant in Monterrey Mexico. They had three kids, a house in the mountains with a little stream and 74 pecan trees. Then one day the Zetas came and killed the mayor with machetes and all the police quit and the military occupied the city. So they sold their house and their successful restaurant (Cafe XBox) and took out the map. – tysonstacos.com
