Braces & Invisalign – Eating Do’s and Don’ts

For most situations where a patient has braces or Invisalign (/invisalign.html), commons sense will tell you what to avoid. Hard foods, sticky foods, and foods high in sugar must be avoided. Hard foods can break or damage wires and brackets. Sticky foods can get caught between brackets and wires. Minimize sugary foods; they cause tooth decay and related problems. Nail biting, pencil and pen chewing, and chewing on foreign objects should be avoided.

Check your braces occasionally for anything loose or bent. If a brace comes loose or you break a wire, please call our office so that we can arrange an appointment long enough to repair it. Brushing

You will notice that it is much harder to keep your teeth clean with braces. Food collects around the braces and between your teeth, and can only be removed by brushing and flossing.
