Why Move To Austin? We Give The Top 6 Reasons!

Most people who visit Austin, Texas fall in love with this vibrant area and want to stay. If you haven’t been to Austin, then you don’t know what you’re missing!  Why move to Austin? Here are our top reasons why:

Live Music

Austin’s official moniker is “Live Music Capital of the World,” and they take this title seriously. Home of the yearly SXSW and Austin City Limits Festivals, among many others, Austin walks the walk-in hosting, celebrating and discovering music greatness. If you enjoy music, Austin is a natural habitat.

Natural Beauty

Austin is known for its natural beauty with many trees, hills, and valleys for hiking and exploring, and lakes aplenty for boating, swimming, and water skiing. Situated along the Colorado River, which is dammed up to create many lakes, means you are never far from a scenic spot overlooking the water. You can picnic at the top of Mount Bonnell or fly kites and explore Zilker Park’s 352 acres, home of Barton Springs (68-degree, spring-fed waters year-round), Umlauf Sculpture Garden, Botanical Gardens and Nature Center. Nature lovers flock to this lush environment.

There is no shortage of history and colorful legends in Austin.  Texans aren’t shy about sharing tall tales or honoring local heroes. Austinites have a reputation for being rebellious and they’re proud of it. You can learn more about their history by visiting the majestic Capitol Building or comprehensive Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. History buffs and proud Texans will love living around so much Texas History.

There are jobs. According to the Department of Numbers, Austin’s unemployment rate is below the national and state averages. The city of Austin is adding jobs – Apple is planning a major expansion in Austin, creating 3,600 jobs by 2025, as reported on KVUE\. If you’re out of work and need a job, Austin might be the place to find employment. It’s a huge high-tech mecca.

Austin has implemented some pretty strict smoking bans, not only keeping smoke out of restaurants and bars, but also banning it from Austin’s city parks, preserves, and pools. With miles of hiking and biking trails throughout the city, exercise is encouraged and supported. Home of cyclist Lance Armstrong, Austin creates around 20 miles of biking lanes every year as part of the City’s Biking Plan to reach 750 biking lanes. Austin is definitely an environmentally friendly city with a healthy recycling program and an emphasis on healthy living.

It’s Weird

Perhaps you’ve heard the very popular slogan, “Keep Austin Weird.” In a very conservative state, Austin has adopted this, not just as a marketing campaign, but as a way to reflect their culture of artistic and individual expression that maintains the city as a vibrant and eclectic creative haven for all sorts of individuals.  This includes but is not limited to the LGBTs, intellectuals, naturalists and environmentalists, and non-mainstream Austinites. If you want to bask in the “weird,” Austin is the place to be.

There’s no doubt about it, Austin is unique, and it’s become a popular place to live. Somewhat insulated from the national job crisis and a beautiful and healthy place to boot, why wouldn’t you want to move to Austin?
